These groups regularly change.

At Garsington all pupils, staff and parents are encouraged to have a growth mindset. Check out ideas and guidance on how you can achieve this via the Growth Mindset page.in number. However, these groups do change.

Key Stage 1

Key Stage 1 consists of Year 1 and Year 2.

At the end of each Key Stage, children are formally assessed in reading, writing (inc. spelling and grammar), maths and science.

Assessments are based on the teacher’s knowledge of the children and supported by KS1 tests.

KS1 Assessments-2018-Information-for-Parents

Red Words List is the list of words that all children need to be able to read and spell by the end of year 2.

Learning Detectives

Two pupils from each year group in Key Stage 2 are chosen as Learning Detectives for the term, coming together weekly as a group with the Headteacher to discuss and help with class and schoolwide learning challenges.

Lunch Menu

Year 2 pupils get free hot dinners at school everyday. Check out the current menu

PE

Takes place on Mondays and Thursdays. PE Kit consists of dark coloured shorts, white T-shirt / polo-shirt, plimsolls and trainers. Please ensure your child's PE kit is on their peg.

Pierced ears – ideally children will come to school without earrings on PE days but if this is not possible as they are recently pierced, please provide micropore tape to put over the studs.

Reading

Children will continue to bring home a colour banded reading book, which should be read as often as possible. Parents should complete the Reading Record book. They can change these when they need to.

A RWI book will also be sent home. Children should read this every evening (where possible) to support their English work in class.

Staff aim to hear every child read at least once a week, either individually, within their RWI group or in a guided reading group.
