Rachel Smith
Parent Governor
Chair of Working Together
Literacy Governor

I have been a Parent Governor since March 2014, and I chair the Working Together Committee. We meet once a term and our main priority is to ensure a good, open and mutually supportive relationship between the school and parents/carers - as well as the wider community - so that we are all working together to support the learning and well-being of the children.
I am also a member of the Teaching, Learning & Assessment Committee with special responsibility for Literacy. In that role I am responsible for looking at how the school works with children of all ages and abilities to help them make good progress in reading and writing. As a group we regularly review overall school performance data, but also look in more detail at the effectiveness of different approaches to supporting children with varied needs.
I have lived in Garsington since 2010 and both of my children attend the school. My professional background is in academic publishing, and I have worked in Oxford for 15 years.

I became a governor because I love this school and I want to be involved in making sure it is as good as it can be. I really enjoy being part of a team – with all the school staff – who care passionately about ensuring that every child has the opportunity to learn and develop to their full potential, that the school is safe, and that parents and carers have the information they need to support their children’s education.
