Y6 Class Newsletter

Jan 2016
Dear Parents and Carers,

Welcome back! I hope that everyone had a most enjoyable and restful break. Many thanks for all your Christmas gifts and good wishes.

Our topic for the term is centred around the theme of ‘Extreme Earth’. We will examine different natural disasters and will make a special case study of the Lynmouth flood disaster of 1952.

We still have a lot of ground to cover before SATs, particularly with maths and grammar, especially as this is the first year group to make the switch to the new curriculum. As I have mentioned before, support in helping your child with the quick recall of the multiplication tables will have enormous benefits in many areas of our maths work, not just in performing written calculations. As there is a lot to get through, I will continue to send home an ‘On the Boil’ worksheet to keep practising some of the skills and concepts we have already covered. Please look out for this and make sure it is completed with care. Homework will continue to be given out on a Friday and returned the following Tuesday; spellings and tables will come home and be reviewed on Thursdays.

PE will still be on Thursdays, so children will need their kits, including suitable shoes and a warm layer for outside.

The main events and assemblies for the term are listed on the weekly newsletters. However, please note the following dates which are of particular interest to Year 6:

Friday 8th January—have your say breakfast

Friday 15th January—open morning (maths)

Monday 18th January—SATs meeting 3:15

As ever, please do not hesitate to come and talk to me if you have any concerns or queries. It is usually easiest to catch me after school.

Kind regards
Liz Harris
