Term 3 Jan 2016
Dear Parents & Carers,

Happy New Year! I hope you all had a lovely Christmas. Thank you so much for all your gifts and cards. They were very much appreciated.

Our Topic
This term we will study Extreme Earth. Please see the topic web for more details.

Homework
Homework is important in Year 5 and I will expect all children to hand in their homework on time each week. Homework will be handed out on Friday and will be due in by the following Wednesday. Each week, children will be asked to reflect on the learning they have been doing in school. This reflection should be completed on their homework sheets. I will often allocate online Maths homework to the children. They have all been given their username and password for the Abacus website but please do let me know if your child does not have access to the internet at home and I can arrange for them to do this work in school time. In addition to homework, children will be expected to read regularly and learn their times tables and spellings at home.

PE
· White polo shirt or plain white T-shirt (no logos please); plain dark shorts; and trainers (plimsolls are optional for indoor wear).
· Tracksuits are a good idea for outdoor PE. These should be plain black/grey/dark blue.
· Long hair must be tied back during all PE lessons.
· Small studs must be removed for PE. If children have recently had their ears pierced, they can tape their ears up. They should bring their own Microporous Surgical tape to school in a clearly named box.

Book bags & water bottles

All pupils are asked to bring a named book bag to school daily in which to carry their homework, reading books, letters home etc. Please also provide your child with a filled water bottle (water only please). The children may bring fresh fruit or vegetables to eat during morning break, but they will not be allowed to eat any other snack.

Communication
The school will communicate with you via letters in book bags and via Parentmail. We also put general notices on the window by the Year 4/5 door. Please remember that the school day finishes for Key Stage 2 at 3:05pm.

If there is any information I have left out, or if you have any questions or concerns, please do not hesitate to ask me. The best time to catch me is after school.

Kind regards

Sasha Arbuckle
