Y3 T1 Topic Web


This term the children will be looking at stories with familiar settings and non-fiction information texts linked to our topic. 


The children will expand their knowledge of grammar and punctuation this term and will also be developing their spelling and handwriting. 
It is vital that your child reads as often as possible at home - please continue to read with them on a regular basis.


The children will begin their French lessons this term. They will be learning greetings, numbers to 10 and some nouns.


This term our topic is What did the Romans do for us? The children will learn about the beginnings of the Roman Empire, Roman life and Roman legends. We will also be looking at the Roman invasion of Britain.



This term we will be studying Hinduism. We will be learning about Diwali – the Hindu festival of lights. 

Key questions: Would celebrating Divali at home and in the community bring a feeling of belonging to a Hindu child?

In PSHCE we will be exploring the SEAL theme of New Beginnings with links to belonging, responsibilities and making choices. 

This term we will also be celebrating Harvest time with our annual Harvest festival.

Scientific and technological understanding 

This term we will be learning about animals including humans. We will be looking at similarities and differences, skeletons, muscles and the importance of exercise.


PE will take place on Wednesdays and Fridays. Children must have their PE kit in school at all times, including plimsolls for indoors and trainers for outdoors. We will be focusing on Hockey and ball skills – passing and receiving.


This term the children will learn about and research Roman mosaics They will also 
have the opportunity to design and make their own mosaics.


The children will begin their Ukelele lessons this term. These lessons will take place on Thursday afternoons.
