Y3 Class Newsletter

Dear Parents & Carers,

Welcome to term 3 and the New Year. The year 3 staff would all like to thank you for the lovely Christmas cards and presents that were received last term. We hope that you all had a wonderful Christmas and would like to take this opportunity to wish you all the very best of luck for the New Year.

Our Topic
This term we will be studying Paris and London. We will be comparing the two cities by looking at the history and geography of them both. We will be researching the famous monuments of each city, learning some French songs and we may even explore French cuisine.

Homework is important in Year 3 and I will expect all children to hand in their homework on time each week. Homework will be handed out on Friday and will be due in by the following Wednesday. Each child has their own homework book to take care of and complete their English homework in. Each week, children will be asked to reflect on the learning they have been doing in school. This reflection should be completed in their homework book before they start their homework. I will often allocate online Maths homework to the children. Please do let me know if your child does not have access to the internet at home and I can arrange for them to do this work in school time. In addition to homework, children will be expected to read regularly (please record home reading in reading records) and learn their times tables at home.

PE will continue to take place on Wednesdays and Fridays this term, however, these days are sometimes subject to change. It is therefore important that the children have their PE kit in school at all times.

· White polo shirt or plain white T-shirt (no logos please); plain dark shorts; and trainers (plimsolls are optional for indoor wear).

· Tracksuits are permitted during outdoor PE. These should be plain black/grey/dark blue.

· Long hair must be tied back during all PE lessons.

· Earrings must be removed for PE. If children have recently had their ears pierced, they can tape their ears up. They should bring their own Microporous Surgical tape to school in a clearly named box.

End of day routine
As I am sure you are aware, Year 3 has a new end of day routine. At 3:05 the children will now be allowed to exit the school building without being accompanied by an adult. We have discussed this new routine as a class and I will be encouraging the children to stay close to the Year 2/3 door whilst looking for their parents/carers. The children have been instructed to return to the classroom and wait inside if they cannot see their parents/carers. They have also been instructed not to wait outside for their parents/carers – this includes going to stand with someone else they know. I feel that the children have adjusted very well to the change of routine this week and I thank you for your continued support.

If there is any information I have left out, or if you have any questions or concerns, please do not hesitate to ask me. The best time to catch me is after school.

Kind regards

Kayleigh Launchbury
