Our topic for Term 6 is ‘Heroes. ’ The children will be learning about heroes from history, sporting heroes and super heroes. We will also be learning about healthy eating and how to keep our bodies healthy and fit. For further details please see the topic web.
Year 2 sharing assembly (songs from the infant music festival Friday 8th July 2.30pm).
Please could you ensure that you apply sun cream to your child before school (even on cloudy mornings) and that your child has a sun hat and sun lotion in school at all times (unfortunately we are unable to apply sun lotion to your child). Children should have a named water bottle in class.
Homework will be given out on Fridays and should be completed and handed in by the following Wednesday. Maths homework will consist of online games and worksheets. To help your child to further develop their mathematical skills, could you regularly practice their times tables with them, in particular the 5 and 3 times tables, moving into the 4 times table if appropriate.
Please continue to hear your child read on a daily basis and to record this in their reading record. As your child progresses through the colour bands and into being a Free Reader, it is essential that they still read to you and discuss any new words, concepts and figurative speech, so that they continue to improve their skills. Being a good reader is much more than just decoding the words, it is about understanding what you are reading and reading between the lines. Excellent readers make great writers! Sharing books at bedtime is another excellent way to improve children’s reading comprehension and vocabulary for writing.
Please use the School Newsletter for keeping up-to-date with other events this term. If you have any questions or concerns, please do not hesitate to contact us either at the end of the school day, or by telephone or email via the school office.
With best wishes
