Ball Skills and Dance 
P.E. will continue to be on Monday and Tuesday. Please ensure children have appropriate kit for indoor and outdoor P.E. every day in case of a change of timetable.


Understanding English, Communication and languages 

Read Write inc.
Children will work daily on their reading, writing, spelling and grammar skills in small groups. 

Children will continue to practise letter formation. When using correct letter formations, children will be introduced to ‘lead-ons’ in preparation for cursive handwriting. 

The class will be sharing a range of stories together with a particular focus first on ‘The Three Little Pigs’ and then ‘The Nutcracker’. 

Y1 will be going to the theatre to see ‘The Nutcracker’ on Tuesday 12th December.

Children will continue to read their colour-banded books 1:1 with and adult. These will be changed by one of the Year 1 staff on a weekly basis. 
Please send book bags into school every day with current reading books inside. 

Understanding the Arts 

Art and D&T
Collage, painting, drawing, firework pictures, moving pictures—cutting and fixing skills; making crafts for Winter Fair. 

Charanga Music Scheme: ‘Rhythm in the Way we Walk’ and ‘The Banana Rap’. 
Children will learn about the differences between pulse, rhythm and pitch. They will sing, play, improvise and compose. 

We will also be learning the songs for the Key Stage 1 Nativity. 

Scientific and technological understanding 

Seasonal changes—notice the changing of the seasons and the weather patterns. We will focus on one Maple tree in the playground and observe its change from autumn to winter. We will learn about senses in relation to autumn . 

We will have a science focus on materials and their uses, making links with the story of ‘The Three Little Pigs’ and testing which materials are best for making a house. 

We will use ‘colour magic’ to develop key pad control and choosing tools. 

Historical, geographical and social understanding 

Making maps to tell a story. Show the journey of the Three Little Pigs’ on a map. 

What do we make our houses our of? What are houses made from in other parts of the word? Make reference to a world map.

Religious Education

‘Special gifts’ with reference to the gifts given to Jesus in the Nativity Story.
