Foundation Stage Weekly Update ~ 31st March 2017
We had a great trip to the story museum on Wednesday and the children were all full of enthusiasm on our return to school. Thank you to Julia’s Mum and Mia’s Mum for coming to help us.
Personal, Social and Emotional development
We have been trying hard to show kindness and co-operation whilst we are working and playing this week. The children are able to share lots of great ideas about why these are important and are now beginning to put these into practice without needing to be reminded.
Communication and Language
This week we have been looking at the books ‘Just imagine’ and ‘you choose’ and have been thinking about creating our own imaginary characters. I was really impressed with the children’s imagination and enthusiasm, they had some really great ideas about the character that they would like to be or one that they would like to create.
We have been perfecting our ball skills this week and ensuring that we have good control over rolling, throwing and catching. We have also practised our balancing and traveling under, over and through different equipment.
We have been writing our own descriptions for the characters that we have created. It was great to see the children so keen to write and enthusiastic about the characters that they had created. Lots of the children are beginning to use their phonics knowledge to help them with their writing. Towards the end of the week the children have been independently writing about our trip to the story museum.
This week we have been working on subtraction and creating our own number questions and using different objects to help us check our answers. I have been really impressed with how well the children have taken this on-board and are beginning to apply it to their independent maths work. We have also been counting on, back and in two’s as part of our quick ten minutes of maths every day.
Expressive art and design
We have put our art skills to good use this week and have been designing our own characters. The children had to think about what their character would look like and then pick the appropriate colours to create that character.
Understanding the World
This week we have enjoyed observing our tadpoles and noting any changes in them. In the garden we have been spotting signs of spring and ensuring that we are looking after our plants.
Next week we will be making our spring hats ready for the hat parade. We will provide the children with paper for the hat but they will need additional things to decorate them. It would be helpful if you could send some additional bits and pieces for your child to use to decorate their hat,(feathers, small chicks, ribbon, glitter) please put them in a clearly named bag. These need to be in school by Monday 3rd April at the latest.
Please make sure your child returns their homework by Thursday morning each week. For the last few weeks we have only had about 13 children return their homework on time and several not returning it at all. It is important that homework is returned by Thursday morning so that we have enough time to mark it and then stick in the homework for that week. It also helps the children prepare for the homework that they will be given in year one.
After the Easter holidays Mr Guy will be starting an after school sport club for Foundation Stage. Please keep an eye out for a parent mail with more information.
When your child is ready for a new reading book please return both the reading book and the reading record to an adult in the class. We will then change their book and return it to you via their book bag that day.
Can I just remind you that children should not be bringing in toys from home. We have had a lot of problems over the last few weeks with toys being lost and causing arguments between children.
Next term we will be doing Forest school on a Wednesday afternoon. They will be put into groups and will take it in turns to go with Miss Rizza. All children will need a pair of wellies in school, they will be provided with waterproofs. Please keep an eye out for more information next week.
