FS Update 27.01.17

FS Update 27.01.2017

Personal, Social and Emotional development- This week we have talked about determination and how we can demonstrate this when we are working and playing. It is great to hear the children talking about being determined and how they can do this. In assembly we talked about talents and how we all have different talents that make us unique. The children have been demonstrating  their talents this week and have been keen to show them off. We have been talking about how we are all unique and we should respect and value that.

Physical development- Outside we have been having races just like the Chinese Zodiac story. We set up an obstacle course and enjoyed balancing, crawling through and under objects and exploring different ways of moving. In our P.E sessions we have been moving like the animals in the jungle, thinking about how we can use movement to show different features and ways that animals move. In our gym session we have been demonstrating movements using different equipment.

Communication and Language- We have enjoyed learning to tell the Chinese Zodiac story this week and have used masks to re-tell and act out the story.  It is great to see the children using expression and enjoying taking on a role. We have also had some interesting conversations about the new words that we came across in the Chinese Zodiac story.

Literacy-  In our Literacy sessions this week we have been writing lists of all the animals in the Chinese Zodiac story. We have talked about how lists are written and used our phonics knowledge to help us write both familiar and unfamiliar words. In our phonics lessons we have focused on reading words that contain our new sounds of the week and ensuring that our letters are formed correctly when writing.

Maths- In our maths lessons this week we have been busy perfecting our counting on and counting back from a given number. We have also been using number lines to help us and have used parts of number lines with numbers missing and had to spot the missing numbers.

Expressive art and design- We have been busy creating our own Chinese lanterns this week and creating our own dragon for the Chinese dragon dance. In music we have been thinking about using rhythm to play a tune for the Chinese dragon dance.

Understanding the World- our focus this week has been Chinese New Year and we have been learning about how this is celebrated in China and across the World. We have also learnt how to say Happy New Year in Chinese.

Next Week
