Reception Class weekly Update ~ 24th November 2017

Value of the term: Enthusiasm

Personal, Social and Emotional development- This week we have been trying hard to keep our classroom and cloakroom tidy. This is our whole school challenge for the week. We have talked about why it is important that everyone helps to keep things tidy. We have also been talking about being kind to each other and showing enthusiasm towards learning. You might want to use our value for your child’s WOW leaf. These need to be in school by Monday 18th December so that we can celebrate them before the end of term.

Communication and Language-
This week we have been finding new words or words that we do not understand the meaning of and putting them on our traffic lights. The traffic lights are used to help us to understand the meaning of new words. We sometimes find words when we are reading books or when we over hear them during conversations. Please feel free to contribute to our traffic lights with any words that your child comes across when reading at home.

Physical development-In our PE lesson this week we have continued to practise throwing bean bags into hoops and passing bean bags to a partner. We have been talking about how we can show control and co-ordination when passing a ball or beanbag. We have also been thinking about looking for spaces when we are moving around the hall during our warm up.

Literacy-I have been really impressed with the children’s hard work in phonics this week. We have been reading and writing some CVC words using our Fred fingers and Fred talk. We have been writing words like hat, bat, cat, mat, dog, log and other similar words. Please support your child with their writing at home and their developing pencil grip. All children should be able to write and recognise their name by Christmas.

Maths-In our maths sessions this week we have been counting objects and matching them with the correct numeral. I have been really impressed by the children’s knowledge ability to match a number with the correct quantity of objects.

Expressive art and design-This week we have started to create our Christmas crafts ready for the Christmas fair next Friday. We have been making salt dough and we will be painting them ready to sell next Friday. We have also enjoyed singing songs for the Christmas play. On Thursday, I was treated to a fashion show put on by the children. They had decided to find their own dressing up clothes and organise a fashion show for us to watch. It was lovely to see them all getting involved and organising their own show.

Understanding the World-We have talked about the changes in the weather this week. The children have started to notice the frost in the mornings and the very windy weather we have had. It has been lovely to hear all the words that the children have come up with to describe the weather.
