Reception Class Weekly Newsletter ~ 23rd June

Words of the week: Ocean, scales

We have been very busy this week with art week and have enjoyed working with two different artists. I hope you are all able to go and see your child’s art work which will be on display in the hall after school today. It has also been a very hot week and we have enjoyed lots of water play to keep us cool.

Personal, Social and Emotional development-We have been talking about teamwork again this week and how we can work as part of a team. We have been working as part of a team to complete a piece of artwork with a partner and ensure that we are both happy with the outcome. The children have also been really helpful outside, they have been helping us to move all the equipment ready for the big clean on Saturday.

Communication and Language- There have been lots of conversations this week with our partners about our collaborative art project. The children have had to take the opinions of others into consideration and agree with each other in order to complete their art work.

Physical development-This week we have been practising our fine motor control by cutting out lots of things for out art project. We are also checking that our pencil control and grip are correct. Our PE lessons have been slightly different this week due to the heat and we have practised some sports day races.

Literacy- We have been exploring the story of’ Rainbow fish’ this week and have enjoyed talking about how the Rainbow fish behaved in the story. In our writing sessions we have been busy practising writing red words and the special friends sounds. Please continue to support your child with their writing at home.

Maths- This week we have been looking at patterns and talking about what comes next in a repeating pattern. We have been making our own patterns using toys and colours as well as completing puzzles that contain repeating patterns.

Expressive art and design- This week has been all about the arts. We have worked with two different artists and created our own pieces. The highlight of the week has been creating our own underwater scenes with our partners. We have used a variety of media to create our shoe box underwater scenes

Understanding the World- We have talked about the Great Barrier Reef this week and all the creatures that live there. It has been great to see the children so engaged in our theme for art week. We have also talked lots of keeping ourselves healthy and safe in the sun. The children are really good at identifying ways to keep themselves safe and have talked about why we need to drink lots of water and keep in the shade.

Next week we will be exploring the ‘Very hungry Caterpillar’ and will be tasting lots of fruit. Please could everyone bring in a piece of fruit by Friday next week. It would be great to have some different fruits that the children may not be familiar with.

Chicken pox- Please be aware that we have a confirmed case of chicken pox in our class.

Transition to year 1- There will be a meeting on Wednesday 5th July for Foundation Stage parents to talk about the transition to year one. This will be at 2.30pm in the year one classroom. This is an important meeting and will be a great opportunity for you to hear about the expectations for year one.

Reminders

Sun safety-Please could you make sure your child has a water bottle in school every day. As the weather is getting warmer (hopefully!) please could you make sure your child has a sunhat and sun cream in school.

Sun cream should be named and we will remind the children to apply it on hot days. We are not allowed to apply it for them and do not supply sun cream, your child must bring in their own sun cream, it cannot be shared.

Outdoor area-Can I remind you that the outdoor area is not to be used before or after school by children and younger/older siblings and relatives. Thank you for remembering this.

P.E kits – We have noticed that there are quite a few children who do not have a P.E kit in school and this is preventing them from being able to fully take part in our P.E lessons. P.E is a vital part of our curriculum and all children need a P.E kit in school at all times.
