Foundation Stage update 22nd October 2015
WOW what a busy but fantastic first term we have had. Your children have all settled well and are already demonstrating their ability to be great learners.
Communication and language
We have continued to learn about the story of the Three Little Pigs this week. Exploring it in more detail and discussing certain points in the story. The children have really enjoyed using actions to tell the story to each other and in a group. We have also enjoyed working with talk partners lots this week and the children are really understanding the importance of being a good talk partner.
This week we have been learning the sounds ‘s and d’. How to say these sounds and practising how to write them correctly. We have also been using our Fred fingers to begin to blend some sounds to read words that contain familiar letter sounds. Thank you for supporting your child with their homework last week, please let me know if you have any questions. Please continue to support your child with their phonics homework.
Personal, social and emotional development
We have been thinking about ways that we can act responsibly around school. On Monday Ms d’Archambaud came to talk to us about being responsible and how we can demonstrate this. Your child also brought home a responsibility at home certificate for you to fill out. These can be returned to school and will be celebrated in our class assembly with Ms d’Archambaud on a Monday. We have also enjoyed celebrating our achievements this term and thinking about all the new friends that we have made, as well as the new things that we are learning to do.
We have enjoyed being outside this week and being builders, digging and building using different large construction materials. We discovered that there is lots of heavy lifting and moving involved in being a builder. Our writing sessions this week have also helped us to develop our pencil control and we are learning how to form our letters correctly.
This week we have continued to learn about estimating and measuring objects. Today, with our buddies we went on a measuring hunt around the classroom to find different objects and people that we could first estimate how big they were and then measure them using uni fix cubes.
Expressive art and design
We have worked in pairs this week to plan, design and make our won houses for the three little pigs. The children have used a variety of materials to construct their houses. The only rule was that it had to be big enough for the three little pigs and strong enough so that it wouldn’t get blown down by the wolf.
Understanding the World
This week we have been thinking about how we can show responsibility for the classroom and the whole school community. The children have demonstrated great responsibility when tidying up and looking after our environment and resources.
Starts on Monday 2nd November.
