Foundation Stage Update - 12th May 2017
Words of the week: ferocious, independence
Personal, Social and Emotional development- This week we have continued to talk about independence and how we can try our best to be independent both at school and at home. We have talked about how we can show that we are independent in school, by changing our own shoes and being responsible for our own things. We have also talked about how we can show that we are independent at home, it would be great if you could observe your child being independent at home and this could then become their WOW leaf for this term.

Communication and Language- The children have had some great conversations this week about the jungle and why they would or wouldn’t like to live in the jungle. It is always great to hear the children’s ideas and we are trying really hard to encourage them to explain their reasons.

Physical development- We have started our May Day dancing this week. This is an important event in the Garsington School calendar and we are looking forward to showing you our dance. In our outdoor PE lesson we have been working our way around different stations, working on our climbing, balancing and co-ordination.

Literacy- This week we continued to use non-fiction books and the internet to find out facts about jungle animals for our writing. The children are getting really good at identifying fiction and non-fiction books. We then wrote sentences about our favourite jungle animals. It is great to see the children using capital letters, finger spaces and full stops in their writing. Please continue to support your child with their writing at home and remember to regularly practise our speed sounds.

Maths- We have continued to count to 100 and higher in our maths lessons this week and I have been really impressed with the children’s growing confidence with higher numbers. Outside we have been hunting for objects to count and recording our findings using marks that we can interpret.

Expressive art and design- This week we have been painting our favourite jungle animals. We used different pictures to inspire us and thought carefully about the colours that we would need and the size of the animal. We have also enjoyed listening to our May Day music and creating our dance moves.

Understanding the World-
This week we have been talking about the jungle and in particular the different animals that live in the jungle. Our topic this term is change and we have explored how different things can be changed. Julia’s Mum very kindly came in and helped us with our gardening on Monday and the children all enjoyed observing the changes in our plants, especially the radishes.

Reading books- Please can you make sure your child returns their reading book with their reading record.

Wellies- Please make sure your child has a pair of named wellies in school at all times. Forest school will be on a Wednesday afternoon during the summer term.

Dates for your diary:

Friday 26th May- May day. We need parent helpers to help us walk the children through the village. Please let me or the office know if you can help. Please see the letter sent home for more information about costumes.

Thank you for your continued support.
