Foundation Stage Weekly Update - 8th July 2016

Words of the week: sunset, sunrise, temper, aphids

Physical development- This week we have really enjoyed practising for sport day. The children are now really prepared for their first sports day on Tuesday. We are really looking forward to showing you how fast we can run and how fantastic we are at working in a team.

Personal, social and emotional development- This week we have talked about how we can prepare ourselves for year one and have discussed all the things that we are looking forward to. Today, the children spend the morning with their new teacher Miss Rizza and had a fantastic time. I have also been really impressed by the children’s ability to be Red Kite learners this week.

Communication and Language- We have had some great discussions this week about the story of the ‘Bad tempered ladybird’ and have been thinking about why he was so bad tempered. On Monday we had some fantastic discussions about our words of the week and what they mean.

Maths- This week we have been talking about time and days of the week. We have discussed important times of the day and the sequence of the days in the week. We continue to work on our number bonds and adding and subtracting two numbers.

Literacy-We have been looking at and comparing the story of the ‘Very hungry caterpillar’ and ‘The bad tempered ladybird’. We have talked about the author and the illustrator and compared the illustrations in both books. The children have talked about the comparisons between the use of time in the bad tempered ladybird and the days of the week in the hungry caterpillar.

Expressive art and design- This week we have enjoyed creating our own art work both inside and outside. It is fantastic to see just how far the children have come with their art. With Mrs Bruce the children have been talking about orchestras and listening to different instruments.

Understanding the world-Our butterflies have finally emerged from their cocoons and we have been talking about how we can care for them and the food that they need.

Health and safety week-our whole school focus next week will be how we can keep ourselves safe and we will have visits from the fire brigade and the NSPCC.

Reading books- Please could you return all reading books and any class books that you may have borrowed. We need to collect all our books back ready for the end of term and will not be changing reading books after today.

Next week-Mrs England and I are doing home visits for the new children and will be out of class all day on Thursday, Friday and the following Monday. Mrs Bruce and Mr Willbery will be covering the class.

Sports day-Please send your child into school wearing their P.E kit on Tuesday morning. We will then walk to the rec for our first sports day. Don’t forget that you can join us for a picnic in school at lunchtime.

Race for life-next Friday the children will be taking part in a whole school race for life. Please send your child to school in their P.E kit. They can keep this on all day.

Spare uniform-
If your child has outgrown their uniform then we would really appreciate any kind donations for our spare clothes box.

Teddy bears picnic-On Tuesday 19th July we will be having a class teddy bears picnic to celebrate the end of the school year. Next week we will be discussing the food that we would like to eat and will put up a sign up sheet for food. If you could sign up for your child to bring in some food to share with the rest of the class. More information will follow in next weeks newsletter.

Homework
-This week is the last week that we will be sending homework home. Please keep your phonics keyrings at home.

Thank you for your continued support.
