Foundation Stage Weekly Update ~ 6th January 2017

Happy New Year and welcome back! I hope you all had a lovely Christmas and you are feeling refreshed and ready for another busy term. Thank you very much for the lovely cards and generous gifts, it was incredibly kind of you.

Below is some key information about this term:

Value of the term: Determination

Staffing-You might have noticed that we have two new Teaching Assistants in our class this term, Mr Willbery and Mr Bowden-Green. They will both be working in Foundation Stage full time. My PPA time will continue to be Tuesday afternoon and Miss Evans will be taking the class during that time.  If you haven’t had a chance to introduce yourself to them yet then please feel free to do so.

This term- Please check your child’s book bag for a copy of the plan for this term. You can also find this on the website under our class page.

Weather- As the weather is a little chilly(!) please could you make sure your child has a coat, scarf, gloves and hat in school at all times. We go outside in all types of weather and it is therefore important that your child is appropriately dressed.

Class assembly- Our first class assembly will be on Friday 20th January at 2.30pm.  It would be great to see as many of you there as possible.

All About Me- If you haven’t already please could you return your child’s ‘All About Me’.

New WOW leaves are in your child’s homework folder. It would be fantastic if you could use our value of the term for this terms WOW leaf. It could be something that your child has shown particular determination with.

Attendance- It has been great to see so many children in school and on time this week.  It makes a real difference if your child is in school and settled before registration and means that they don’t miss out on valuable learning time.  Our whole school target for attendance is 96% -100%. From next week the school gate will be locked at 9.00am each morning so that we can make a prompt start to the day. Please look at the poster on our class window ‘Every School Day Counts’ for more information about the importance of good attendance.

P.E kits- Please make sure your child has a PE kit in school all week. We will be doing PE on Tuesdays and Thursdays this term and one of these will be outside. Please send in warm jogging bottoms/leggings, trainers and a warmer sports top. We are trying to encourage the children to be independent and get themselves dressed and undressed  for PE, it would therefore be helpful if children wore polo shirts rather than shirts with lots of buttons and trousers rather than tights on PE days.

This week

We have had a great three days and the children have all settled back into the routine well.

Literacy- We have been writing about our Christmas holiday, do look at the writing working wall to see your child’s latest piece of writing and flick through to see just how much their writing has progressed.

PSED- This week we have talked about our value of the term ‘determination’ and have set ourselves a goal of something that we want to achieve this term. We are determined to work hard in order to achieve these goals by the end of term.

Communication and Language- We have had some fantastic discussions this week about our Christmas holidays and have enjoyed sharing this with our friends. We have also been thinking about how we can demonstrate that we are active learners and why this is important.

Expressive art and design- This week we have built snowmen! It has been cold but not quite that cold so we had to improvise and make our own individual snowmen pictures to show just how chilly we have been feeling.

Maths- We have been identifying the number that is one more or one less than a given number this week. Please continue to support your child with this. The children have also started to explore the scales this week and have talked about how we can get them to balance. This will be our focus next week.

Physical development- We have concentrated on our fine motor control this week and have been practising writing our letters in phonics.

Understanding the World- This week we have been talking about our immediate world and families and how we celebrated Christmas with them. We have also observed changes in the weather and commented on how frosty and cold it has been.

Next week

Phonics: qu, x, ng, nk.

Maths: Weighing and measuring
