Foundation Stage Weekly Update ~ 3rd March 2017
Personal, Social and Emotional development
We have been thinking about our value of the term this week and how we can demonstrate it. In the classroom we have tried hard to be kind to others and the environment. We have made some whole school changes to lunchtimes and all the children have coped well with this. Do ask your child about lunchtimes.

Communication and Language
We have enjoyed imagining we are going to the moon and have been packing up our rockets with all the things that we would take with us. The children have been working in pairs and groups to share their ideas.

Physical development
In our PE lessons this week we have practised our ball skills, working in pairs and larger groups to bounce, throw and roll a ball. We warmed up by imagining we were going to space, dressing in our space clothes and blasting off. The children are also able to get changed for PE much quicker now and more independently. Our focus this term is ball skills and team games.

This week we have been writing about what we would take on a trip to the moon. We used the story ‘Whatever next’ as our inspiration and thought about what things we would take in our rockets. Whilst writing we have had to think carefully about using our phonics to help us. At the moment we are focusing on writing at least one sound in a word correctly and ensuring all our letters are correctly formed. Please continue to support your child with this at home.

We have been counting on and counting back from a given number this week. We have imagined we are astronauts and are counting back ready to blast off. We have also been practising our counting in two’s, I am really impressed with how well the children’s counting skills have developed. Please continue to support your child with their maths at home.

Expressive art and design
This week we have enjoyed creating our Space display. We made our own astronaut and used different materials to create his clothing . We then painted a 3D moon and planets, as well as making some stars.

Understanding the World
We have continued to learn about space this week we have talked about the things that you might see in space and what it would be like to go to space. The class were divided on whether they would like to go to space or not.

Please make sure you have received the letter about our class trip to the story museum.

Homework will now be sent home in a red book. Please return your child’s red book with their homework by the following Thursday each week. The homework for this week is in your child’s book bag.

When your child is ready for a new reading book please return both the reading book and the reading record to an adult in the class. We will then change their book and return it to you via their book bag that day.

Don’t forget Mr Willbery’s quiz this Saturday 7pm at Garsington sports and social club. All money raised will go to the NSPCC.

Next week
We will be thinking about how we have changed since we were babies and will be looking at our baby pictures.
Please make sure your child has a named baby photo in school next week.
