May Day procession & Crowning of the May Queen

Every year the pupils, staff, parents and community of Garsington CE Primary celebrate May Day by dressing up in traditional costumes and as village workers and artisans and processing through the village.

The children follow the Town Crier, May Queen and her Attendants, framed by an arbour of flowers, to St Mary's church. The procession return along the village green via the Old School and the May Queen is crowned in a ceremony at the school.

From Foundation Stage up to Year 5 - all the pupils perform their dancing

Once the formalities are done all the get the chance to show off their traditional May Day dancing to the watching parents and members of the community. The event builds to a crescendo when everyone is invited to take part in the Virginia Wheel.

Thank you to everyone (and the lovely weather) for making this year's May Day such a wonderful day full of colour and fun!
